Hello, everyone! My name is Injee Hong, and I will be joining Centre Trail as the intern for the fall semester. I am so excited to join the Centre Trail team and have been fortunate enough to have both Dr. Harney and Dr. Strauch in class. I am a senior history and economics & finance double major at Centre College.
My hometown is near Princeton, New Jersey, so quite a few miles away from Danville, Kentucky. My only exposure to Kentucky before attending college here was visiting the first location of Kentucky Fried Chicken and Mammoth Cave on a family road trip. I have loved getting to know Kentucky on a much deeper level my past three years here and learning that the state is much more than fried chicken and the Kentucky Derby.
I grew up most of my life in New Orleans, Louisiana, so that is where I consider my real hometown to be. Growing up I thought having a week off of school for Mardi Gras was a normal part of life in the United States. I was so distraught when I found out that it was not in fact so. However, fourth grade Louisiana history class was probably when my interest in history really piqued. The diverse cultures that shaped Louisiana history was my first real introduction to identity crises of geographic regions. I was able to explore this topic further when I studied abroad in Strasbourg, France last fall (2019). Strasbourg is in the Alsace region of France and has been transferred between Germany and France multiple times.
In terms of on-campus involvements, I am the Chair of the Student Judiciary, part of Greek Life, and a Resident Assistant. Centre College has such a special place in my heart, and even in the midst of these unprecedented times, I have grown to appreciate the special learning and living community we have here even more. I am looking forward to contributing to Centre Trail and learning how to make podcasts (I am a BIG fan of podcasts and am always looking for suggestions)!
